City and Colour - Bring Me Your Love

City & Colour - Waiting City & Colour - Constant Knot City & Colour - Hello, I’m in Delaware

City and Colour

Today, when I opened up my Myspace (evil, evil myspace), they had an advertisement for City & Colour. Seems they’ve started up a new section of the social networking system called ‘Transmissions’ which features some bands that are really under the radar, and some that aren’t. (James Blunt, Nada Surf)

Having fallen in love w/ Dallas Green about a year ago, I was happy to see that they (the evil evil Myspace) covered someone who isn’t very popular, but still extremely talented. Green was the lead singer of emo/punk/indie Canadian band, Alexisonfire. Even though Alexis found some success with their music, it seems that Green had to do some recording of his own, to get it out of his system. He thus formed a solo act, City & Colour.

His first album ‘Sometimes’ became quite the hit, even with Alexis fans, despite it’s melodic acoustic nature. It is a tremendous album that bleeds passion and honesty. If you should so happen to be a fan of Bon Iver, Damien Rice, or Iron & Wine - this is your guy, if you didn’t know already.

In January, he released ‘Bring Me Your Love,’ which I just got my hands on, and I must say, is a little more mature than ‘Sometimes’ was. If you haven’t picked it up yet, you really should, if acoustic singer songwriters that have tremendous voices is your thing. Make sure you also check out the ‘Transmissions’ section of the evil myspace as well. He has a few songs, and answers a few questions. It’s good stuff. Even if it is on Myspace.

Mashup Monday - Grand National vs. The Bee Gees

Grand National Vs. The Bee Gees - Dancing in the Distancenice legs.

Possibly one of the finer things in life that I’m beginning to enjoy. Mashups. This is where a DJ or just a music maniac will take two tracks of incredible music, and mash them together creating one massive, this is too good for radio - track. Today, in lieu of Grand Nationals 2nd album release, ‘A drink & A quick decision’ I’ve found a mashup of their first hit single ‘Playing in the Distance’ mashed w/ The Bee Gees ‘You should be dancing.’

Check it out, love it, live it, etc.

Throwback Thursday - Radiohead - Talk Show Host

Written by dushey on May 22, 2008 – 11:57 am

Maybe it’s cause I actually liked the movie Romeo and Juliet, or maybe just cause Radiohead is just so DAMN good. Either way, Talk Show Host is still a song that brings memories flooding back. Take some time out to enjoy them here at Glastonbury in 03.

Little Brother - Get BackLittle Brother - Two Step Blues

Been a long week? YES, it has been. For you, for me, for your boss, and even for your mother. Have no doubts though, as this weekend is gonna rock socks. You know how I know? Cause the weather is beautiful, and you’ve got Little Brother to bring in the evening hours with a delicious booty shake. If you’re at work, wait to listen to this song til you get home. You’re gonna wanna kick off your shoes, dance on your kitchen table, and act like a ridiculous fool. It’s just one of those songs. Believe me. If only ‘just this once.’

    Midlake and Jimi Hendrix

    Midlake
Midlake vs. Jimi Hendrix - Roscoe (Gypsy Eyes)

I found Midlake by way of my own music obsession, a band from Denton, Texas. After buying their latest release ‘The Trials of Vanoccupanther,’ I immediately went back and bought everything they ever touched. With sweet pop rock sounds, this is some band that needs your attention. Lately they’ve been featured in Rolling Stone and Magnet magazines, so they are definitely making some waves.

The ‘Trials’ is an excellent disc, but I wanted more. With it’s catchy melodic tone, it seemed to be a little to clean for me. Not a bad thing, I just like it dirty sometimes (don’t we all?).

I searched the internet high and low, looking for live tracks, unreleased, anything. And with that, I made one of the best discoveries of my life. -team9.net-

Midlake - The Trials of Vanoccupanter

Anonymous bootlegger team9 from Perth, Canada remixes tracks from some up and coming artists, with older, more popular artists like 2 Live Crew, The Cure, Guns n Roses, and so many more. It’s really good mash-ups, and he usually let’s these go for free. Make sure you check them out. If you like this Midlake tune, make sure you check out their cd, ‘The Trials of VanOccupanther.’
